I like helping people. One of my favorite charities is a local food pantry. They help people get food and they help kids get school supplies at the beginning of the year. I like organizations that help Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, because they help kids my age. I also like St. Judes Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, because they help kids with cancer and terminal illnesses.

 

September 26, 2009 -- My First Donation

 

My first donation was to the city I live in. Our flagpole in front of City Hall was really short. My dad helped me find a used flagpole a man wanted to sell. I used money I made selling cans to buy it from him.

 

The city had a flagpole dedication and invited my class to the ceremony. Some war veterans came to the ceremony. They donated a new flag to our city. I got to raise the first flag.

 

Reporters came to the ceremony and interviewed me. It was very cool to read about the flagpole in the newspaper.
